Today, we’re excited to share some big news with you. Freshman, and its parent company Honest Health, have been acquired by Hims & Hers Health, Inc (NYSE:HIMS), the multi-specialty telehealth platform focused on providing modern personalised health and wellness experiences to all consumers.
It’s been an incredible journey to this moment. Back in 2018, when we started Freshman, we found ourselves searching for ways to keep our hair without having to pay an arm and a leg. Like so many of you, we felt underserved by public health systems and private clinics. Our first products were born from the desire to deliver the same proven treatments as private clinics, at a lower price, and with the modern ease of online access. We have been blown away by how guys across the UK responded to Freshman. From the before-and-after photos of hair regrowth to the advice men provided one another, we were amazed by the engagement and supportiveness of the community.
But something unexpected happened too. A grassroots demand emerged for products that aren’t widely available at traditional clinics and pharmacies, such as Topical Finasteride and alcohol-free Minoxidil. Men across the UK were asking for a new kind of option for managing their health. It made us want to do more.
The healthcare system is one of the last industries that is yet to be modernised with technology. Unlike areas such as retail, transportation, commerce, where you can pick up your phone and be spoilt for choice, the healthcare system looks very much like it did 50 years ago. Making appointments. Waiting in a queue. Going to a pharmacy. We saw an opportunity to remove these obstacles and empower millions of people in this country and beyond to take control of their health choices.
And so our dream grew and Honest Health was born. We imagined targeted healthcare for anyone, no matter what their specific need for skin, hair, or body. We believed especially that personalised treatments could make a big difference to so many people who were underserved by existing treatment options. That’s what brought us to Hims & Hers. It would probably not be an exaggeration to say that Hims & Hers wrote the playbook on removing barriers that exist in the healthcare system. Like us, their bold vision is to build a multi-disciplinary health platform serving the broadest possible range of health needs.
When we first met the team, we bonded over this shared vision and felt energised by their commitment to personalised healthcare. Joining forces today means we can better deliver on this vision. We are thrilled to be working together and to build the innovations the healthcare system needs.
Today we’re seeing first hand the success of the vertical healthcare platform model in a limited set of healthcare verticals – but there’s still so much potential. What excites us most about this acquisition is the opportunity to be part of adapting this groundbreaking model to new and more challenging parts of the healthcare system.
